Atheist Rights

Why an Atheist Church?

1.) It can be your legal religion. It is mine.

2.)You obtain a legal status of clergy and can therefore perform weddings. In some counties, and certainly some countries, this allows for secular weddings to exist where they are either prohibited or the judicial system is unwilling to accommodate secular interests for official or personal biases.
3.) The United States requires employers and the government to provide reasonable accommodations of religious practices, but only some states require reasonable accommodation for sincere moral objections. By declaring your sincere moral objections to be religious objections, your religious objections obtain the same legal protection.
4.) Many people are bothered by being baptized, confirmed, or forced to “convert” to a religion so they could marry a person of faith. For some, a confirmation certificateof their lack of religion or faith to hang on their wall means something to them.
5.) It can use federal “faith based initiative” money handed out by the Fed. to do good works in the community.
6.) It can educate the public and all of the other benefits of a traditional atheist organization.
7.) It stimulates dialogue. Most rational people know that atheism is not a religion. Once you put up a church sign, that point becomes obvious. It becomes a joke even for Christians.
8.) It has the potential to provide community based initiatives and networking with regional secular interests such as camp quest, adopt a highway, feeding the homeless, etc.
9.) It invites people of faith and people without faith to discuss. This discussion is legally good enough to be considered “prayer,” and respect and usage of rationality is good enough to be considered “devotion.”
10.) If it is true that for many people they are unable to have no religion and are only able to replace one religion with another, this would be a safe minimal dogma corrective religion.
11.) It’s inflammatory which stimulates discussion.

“Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of l964 prohibits employers from discriminating against individuals because of their religion in hiring, firing, and other terms and conditions of employment. Title VII covers employers with 15 or more employees, including state and local governments. It also applies to employment agencies and to labor organizations, as well as to the federal government.” Traditional conceptions of atheism only allows an atheist the negative right of exemption from religious activity, but would not allow for an atheist to request positive rights. Avant-garde Atheism is, however, a a sincerely held religion in the Church of Atheism. If one has a sincerely held religion, even if that religion or practice is only held by 1 person and no matter how absurd it may seem, the government is not allowed to discriminate between “true” religions and “false” religions. So, for Atheists out there, you can declare for yourself any manner of dress, sabbaths, or holy period in the day for the expression of your Atheism and your employer must respect it so long as it does not put an “undue burden” on the employer; otherwise, they will have to provide “reasonably accommodation.” This also gets you out of mandatory prayers that envoke the word “GAWD,” and other exemptions from forced practice. http://www.eeoc.gov/types/religion.html If you feel like your rights have been violated and are looking for a resulution but are unable to find one you can file a claim with the EEOC.

Your Right to Blaspheme and Criticize Religion: According to Joseph Burstyn, Inc. v. Wilson 1952 you can swear all you want as long as it is blasphemous. Jesus Christ, God dammit, Jesus, Holy Crap (as long as “crap” is allowed), God, Holy Moses, etc. Any laws, company policies, or school rules against blasphemy are unenforceable since the Federal Government trumps the State. Any attempt to censor what is deemed “sacreligious” is a violation of freedom of expression. AMERICAN ATHEISTS Since 1963, has been the premier organization laboring for the civil liberties of Atheists, and the total, absolute separation of government and religion. It was born out of a court case begun in 1959 by the Murray family which challenged prayer recitation in the public schools. That case – Murray v.
